Safe Haven celebrates Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)
April 1 - April 30
Safe Haven celebrates Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Typically, we host a few events throughout the month that are dedicated to raising awareness about this subject and to let victims know that we support them.
Instead of doing our usual Clothesline Project as a single event, we thought this year we would try to make it a month-long campaign. We’ve had survivors of rape & sexual assault decorate T-shirts that reflect their feelings and their experience (there are no curse words on the shirts). Attached are some pictures of shirts that clients created last year. By displaying these shirts all over town, in shops and offices that survivors visit, we can let them know that they are not alone and that their community stands with them. Shirts can be folded and laid on a counter top or hung up on a wall and Safe Haven will provide you with some informational brochures to display nearby. We will also be around at the end of the month to collect the shirts for you!
If there are any local merchants who are interested in “hosting” a shirt in their office/business, please let me know! email@example.com or call 570-296-2827, and ask for Chelsea.
If any owners or their employees would like to create their own shirt to display, let us know and we’ll make sure to get you some Safe Haven cards and brochures to display as well! We’d also love to get pictures for our (and your) social media!
We know that this topic can be uncomfortable and embarrassing for some, but the hard fact is that sexual assault and rape happen right here in Pike County every day. By showing survivors that their community supports them, we are empowering them to stand tall and get the services that can help them rebuild their lives.
Thank you for your support!
